Trust in the Lord and be Blessed
I remember when Rob and I started our life together. I had just come back from being stationed in Korea, we each had over $400 in phone card bills and we both had very little to our names. We had to move from Raleigh to Washington, DC. This began the series of events that could only be orchestrated by God. Rob’s brother gave us $20. Those dollars were the only way we paid for gas to make the trip (that tells you how long ago if $20 could get us from Raleigh to DC!) One of my fellow officers offered his townhome to us while he was stationed in Korea at a rental fee below my housing allowance and his pantry was FULL!! We found a local restaurant that we could by a rotisserie chicken and get one free and we rolled change to be able to buy groceries. We didn’t have much, but we had all we needed. We attended church but my relationship with God was not as it is today. As I look back, it is clear that God was with us all along this journey.
I recently found this verse and it seems so fitting. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” (Jeremiah 17: 7-8, NIV). When a tree is ill or struggling, the other trees will share their nutrients, and water through their underground roots in order to help keep it alive. We were that struggling tree. A stranger more than a friend offered us his home and trusted us to care for it while he was able to care for us. A loving brother gave us from what little he had not knowing how much it was needed. A local restaurant owner provided food on our table that chose loyalty and caring for customers over earning those extra dollars. These were all our other trees that shared their nutrients, shared what they had so that we could survive and being to bloom. God placed us by a stream and a forest of trees that removed our fear and enabled us to plant deeper roots and blossom.
Today, I pray that if you are that struggling tree, that you trust in the Lord and know that you will always bear fruit, you have nothing to fear as long as you trust in the Lord. I pray that if you are no longer struggling, that you share your “nutrients” with others so others may grow and bloom in the Lord.
