Satisfaction in your toil

Tomorrow is going to be a big day for the Moore family. As I sit here in a hotel room with the girls and half my family still back home, I can’t help but reflect on the significance of this day and the gift from God. Almost a year ago, I knew that change was coming. In the past, I would worry and fret on what would be changing. Would it be my civilian job? Was my time in the military done? Was it about my writing-was I going down the right path? Did it have to do with my family? I felt God preparing me and I chose to just trust and follow where he led me. I felt almost certain that it would be one door closing so another could open, boy was I wrong. It was all doors opening wide!

I have shared that it is a season of abundance, I don’t know how else to express it. I changed jobs in my civilian job and have new challenges to face and shortly after, I found out about my promotion in the military. And just when I thought I knew where God was leading me, I received a request for my first civilian speaking role. God is so good, so amazing, and His time is always perfect. “I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil-this is the gift of God” (Ecclesiastes 3:12-13, NIV). To be happy and do good while you live, what an amazing gift of life. He doesn’t say to constantly seek the next big thing, to search for titles, rewards, or money- He guides us to do good, that is where we find our joy.

As we sat around our family dinner tonight with our extended family, Rob shared the journey it took to get to this moment. As he talked, I saw all those that stepped on this path with me along the way. I was never alone and this satisfaction in my toil belongs to them as much as me. So, as I get ready to close the day, I am filled with absolute joy and wonder of this amazing gift of life. I get to do amazing things each and every day. I get to work in an amazing job; I get to continue to serve in the military; I get to be a wife; I get to be a mom; I get to be a daughter and sister; I get to be a friend; I get to do good and find joy in all things.

Today, I pray that you find joy in your life. I pray that you see that the toils and hard work also bring you joy. I pray that you not always be so focused on the next thing that you fail to see the joy where you are.
