Carry each other’s burdens
I think one of the biggest understatements I can make is saying this is a busy week. Rob is traveling, I am traveling with both military and civilian demands, Hope has a dance competition…and the list goes on. These are the weeks when it’s all hands on deck and everyone chips in to make sure key times are not missed and to provide relief when needed. Some say it takes a village, we live in that village! I could not have the freedom to focus and do what I need to do with work if I did not have others willing to help carry the weight of all that is needed back home. “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2, NIV). God calls us to help each other, to treat each other as Christ treated the least of us while He walked this earth.
The same goes for me with my job. In order for all of us to do what we need to do, we have to lean in and be willing to carry each other’s burdens. If one of us succeeds but the others fail, we all fail. When we lean in and help carry each other’s burdens, we are stronger. This week, a dear friend and fellow soldier lost his family dog. Although he was willing to keep engaged, I told him we had it all covered and to be with his family. That same soldier flew home later in the week and made a point of attending a retirement event for a fellow leader with 34 years of service knowing how much that day meant to him and his family. We carry each other’s burdens.
This week has been full of these stories. We all go at such a fast pace at times that it makes it nearly impossible for us to stand on our own. When one of us can’t fulfill a task, the other leans in. When one of us is in pain and needs to be with family, the other leans in. When one of us is overwhelmed with the chaos of life, family members in surgery, pressures from work, the other leans in. We do not stand alone when we have Christ in our lives and when we surround ourselves with our brothers and sisters. We lean in and carry each other’s burdens.
Today, I pray that you be willing to carry each other’s burdens. I pray that you be willing to be more like Christ and surround yourself with people that will help carry your burdens when you have those hard days.
