What a road trip
When the Moore Family makes a commitment, we stick with it. My dear friend’s son competes in hockey and we told him if he made it to Nationals we would be there. Guess what-they won. So, this morning, we found ourselves traveling over 8 hours to Pennsylvania to watch him play in the National Championship. Since Hope has a dance competition this weekend, it is an up and back trip so we can make it back in time for her special event this Sunday. Insane, right?
I have watched these four young boys grow before my eyes and I couldn’t be prouder of each of them. This weekend, it was all about supporting Oliver.
In typical Moore family form, we roll in with 3 minutes to spare before the start of the match. We were all there to cheer them on to their victory, but that was just a small piece of this amazing night. After congratulations were shared and hands were shaken, our team gathered on the ice and knelt in prayer. They didn’t scream and holler, they didn’t gloat or boast, they simply knelt and prayed.
The team that lost remained on the ice after the rink was cleared and most observers had left. They came together and continued to play…holding on tightly to the special night and the last time that they would all play together on the ice. There was no rush, and as I watched, I knew that none of them would forget this day. They would remember that when the day did not end the way they wished, they stood together on that ice and continued to hold on to just one more moment.
God “gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:30-31, NIV). Tonight, I saw eagles soaring. I saw young men that had not grown weary after a hard fought battle on the ice-they did not stumble or fall, but skated off the ice with their heads held high. There were no losers tonight.
Today, I pray that you make the intentional effort to be there for our youth-it matters. They have a lot to teach us just as they learn from us. I pray that you help build their foundation of faith so that one day, you will see them “soar on wings like eagles”.

Worth the trip-lifelong memories.
