Many are my plans
This verse stood out to me today, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21, NIV). Many times in my life, including now, I have had this image of all the things I thought were my heart’s desire. Many times I encountered heart ache and disappointment. Every time after I realize God’s plans, I would realize that what I had in my heart was nowhere near as miraculous or purposeful as what God had planned for me. I knew this after Rob and I struggled for 7 years to get pregnant. Many times I questioned why God did not want me to be a mom, it was my greatest desire. Instead, God made me a mom at the perfect moment and gave me our two precious miracles. In doing so, and taking us down this journey, we were able to share miracles with others. That would have never happened if the plans I had in my heart would have come to fruition when I wanted it to happen.
I have been in the same space lately and reminding myself to trust God first and foremost. In doing so, His purpose will prevail and I know it will be much more than anything I could have imagined, even if it seems contrary to what my heart desires. None of us knows or understands all things, God does, and He calls us to trust Him.
I am sure that each of you, at least at one time in your life, have questioned why something you desire most in your heart didn’t come to fruition. If you pause to really think of those moments and where you are today, can you see the gift God gave you in seeing His purpose prevail? It is easy to get lost in our desires and lose sight that God’s purpose, God’s glory, outweighs any desire we may have. For His glory, not mine. I may never know or understand all that are impacted by His plans, but I trust in His plans.
I had a dear friend who is a recipient of a heart transplant. I am sure the family that lost the loved one found it difficult to wrap their head around such a tragic loss. It was far from any plans they had in their heart for their loved one. What they may never have seen or know is the Godly woman that received that heart. How her life has continued to touch so many others. The gift of life has enabled her to share God’s glory here on earth. It has given her a testimony of miraculous healing when hope seemed lost. The loss of one life and the saving of another illustrating God’s glory here on earth.
I don’t think we will ever truly understand all that happens in our lives. I don’t think we are meant to understand. I think the day we do is the day we stand in God’s glory in paradise-and then, I don’t think I will care too much about all my plans in my heart created while on this earth.
Today, I pray that you seek God’s purpose for you and be willing to trust God first and foremost. I think you may find yourself in an inexplicable peace-even when you are not seeing what you desire, you will find God’s purpose for you.
