My travel did not stop this week, in fact it remained about the same. This week’s focus was more on community. I recently started a new virtual bible study by Lysa Terkeurst, “Making Peace with What you Cannot Control”. As I facilitated the conversation, I couldn’t help but be thankful for this diverse group of women that were coming together with our one common thread of seeking time with God. “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20, NIV). Regardless of when or how we gather, when we come together in faith, God is always with us. This week’s travel reminded me of this verse as I had the chance to see how God has and continues to work in others’ lives.
Not that long ago, I received a request to go speak at a college about my civilian company and our internships. Did I mention I have been traveling non stop? I could have said no, or not the best time, but I kept getting drawn back to this being something I needed to do. I am thankful I said yes. My co-worker and I had the chance to speak to an amazing group of young adults seeking to start their lives in the world. We not only talked about our company, but also our personal journeys that did not differ too much from each of theirs. We showed up to inspire them, but my coworker and I left encouraged and eager to engage with them again. What an honor and a privilege to have been asked and for them to have dedicated time that could have been spent anywhere but in an auditorium listening to a couple of strangers talking.
I also had the chance to travel to DC and promote a young officer that I have known for over 17 years. Her promotion was earned through her commitment and dedication. She has made difficult choices to include saying yes to a mobilization and yes to an assignment that has taken her away from her four precious boys and husband for over two years. That is commitment. In my speech I shared how I have loved being a part of her journey-her journey to find her voice. Boy has she found her voice-and it sounds amazing and will continue to inspire not only her own sons, but generations of airmen that will follow.
I am sure neither the young lady that asked me to join her club to speak, nor my dear friend when she started on her journey in the military while still in high school could have ever imagined the influence and success they would have on others. They may not fully see how God has placed them and others in their lives so that they may take the steps on the path He has layed out for them. I am excited to see what the future holds not only for my dear friend that is now a Colonel, but all those young adults, many of which are first generation immigrants and college students-the sky is the limit.
Today, I pray that you seek out your community of faith. I pray that when asked, even when busy and tired, pray about it-God may be pushing you to say yes.
I pray these words spoke to you, please share with a friend. Don’t miss a blog post, subscribe to my web page.
