Unexpected Gifts
Every now and then, you get unexpected gifts. The giver may not even realize the significance or impact of the gift, especially the timing. Recently, I have had a few of those. My day ended with one of those special gifts. My daughters and I attended a wonderful gala in support of Veterans Bridge Home. Since it was a fundraising event, they had several silent auction items. I later found out that my girls were trying to get me a military coin holder since they always see my coins stored in bags throughout the house. Needless to say, it quickly got too rich for their blood, but then they did this thing. They got on Amazon and found me an amazing coin holder-I mean perfect (you can find it here). So, when I came home today after a long day of illness, sick puppies, and high stress, I saw it on the dining table filled with coins that store years of memories. What a special way to end a stressful day…an unexpected gift. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like the shifting shadows” (James 1:17, NIV)
The other gift received in recent days was a gift of prayer. I have been leaning on my prayer warriors and a call to prayer resulted in just the right prayers in the right moments. I have spoken these prayers over and over myself and then I found myself sharing them with a new “friend”. This gift, this ability to show Grace and put God first in all things, has opened the door to another receiving God. Maybe, the gift of prayer that I thought was intended for me, God had another purpose in sharing. An unexpected gift.
My next gift was a simple text message. In that short message, someone reminded me that although my girls may see me as mommy, the event on Saturday gave them a chance to see me in a different role, a different light. It let them see that mommy, has reached heights that seemed impossible in the military. It let them see that mommy got there through God’s grace alone and that mommy remains true to her faith and in putting God first. Although the path may have difficult days, God always provides. An unexpected gift.
My final gift in recent days, were snuggles and praying hands. I don’t think there is anything more special, more powerful than when you are in need of prayer and someone opens their door and prays with you and for you when you need it most. And then, there is the gift of unexpected late night dance parties, ice cream, snuggles, and prayer from a young woman of faith who’s words touched each of us as we lay in the biggest snuggle pile possible. Unexpected gifts.
Today, I pray that you give a word of thanks for the unexpected gifts. I pray the you take the time to give an unexpected gift-for no other reason than God putting a person in your mind. Listen to that nudge.
I pray these words spoke to you and that you share with a friend. Don’t miss a blog post, subscribe to my web page.
