Not on my bingo card

I think “Not on my bingo card” is going to be my motto for 2026. It doesn’t have a negative or positive definition, it is simply things that happen that make me scratch my head and go-”nope, that one wasn’t on my bingo card.” Last night was one of those nights. Helena and I went with some friends to watch a Banana Ball Series and had an amazing time. While in the parking garage and getting ready to head home, I received a text message from home with a photo of his bloody shirt holding one of our pups saying “send help.” As we hurried home, I called to better understand what happened. We have three pups and two of them will get into a scuffle at times when one is getting more attention or when food is involved. I assumed this one did not end so well. Rob shared that he didn’t think they got into a fight. All the dogs seemed fine except for little Winchester. When I got home we decided to take her to the emergency vet to find out it was minor and she had ruptured an abscess. She was issued the cone of shame and given some medication and we made our way home after the three hour visit to the vet due to the additional pets that came in with life threatening injuries compared to our little pup. We were exhausted by the time we got home but gave her the medicine and went to bed. Not on my bingo card.

Let me set the stage for the other one. I never have the sound turned on my phone when I go to sleep. I am a light sleeper and know if I hear a ding in the middle of the night, I will not be going back to sleep anytime soon. Imagine my surprise when I heard my phone at 4 in the morning. It was Helena thoughtfully sending me a text to let me know she was throwing up and thought it may have been something she ate. Did I mention I heard a ding on my silent phone? As we moms do, I went up to check on her and an already long night became longer. Not on my bingo card.

Plans for the day and weekend quickly changed. I made calls, sent emails, and silenced the chaos created from these two events. Again, not on my bingo card.

I have enjoyed Proverbs lately. I love that I can open up my Bible to Proverbs and always find that little nugget that resonates with my day on any given day. Today, it was “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps” (Proverbs 16:9, NIV) I had plans for this weekend, I had everything coordinated for a weekend of military duty and engagements, but the Lord had something else planned and I thankfully walked in that path. I held my pup in the emergency vet and knew when she stared at me with her soulful eyes that my calming whispers and pets along her back let her know she was safe. I held my daughter as she lay in bed after a rough night and knew that she felt loved and safe. I had plans this weekend, but God had a different path for me and I am thankful.

Today, I pray that you be open to the path God lays before you. Our limited minds and heart may have plans, but God’s path for us is without limits-trust God.

I pray my words spoke to you, please share with a friend. Don’t miss a blog post, subscribe to my web page.
