New Year’s Resolutions-Here we go…again

Sometimes it does feel like the endless cycle of closing out a year and starting new. I always reflect on the past year and complete what we in the military call an After Action Review, AAR. I review what was good and what needs some improvement. As I move towards the New Year, it’s always with high hopes of how this year will be different. I repeat the same mantra that I have learned and grown and I will be better this coming year. This year, it was different. I haven’t done a major overhaul of the past year and I haven’t identified the things I plan on changing in the New Year. 2025 was a year of ongoing refinement and quite honestly, it was exhausting living in it and I have no desire to replay it. As I look forward to 2026, I learned in 2025 that I can create all the lofty goals in the world but all of that falls away if I don’t start with the foundation. So, my goal for 2026 is simple. I will continue to build on my foundation in Christ, all else will fall where it lands. There will be good days and bad days, but none of those days will diminish my foundation.

Someone shared these verses with me today, that “just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness” (Colossians 2:6-7, NIV). As I thought through my New Years intentions, these verses resonated with me. I intend to continue my journey and faith in Christ. I pray that my relationship continues to grow, even if it took hardships and walking through valleys to get to where I am today. I welcome those moments knowing that on the other side, I will have grown deeper in my faith. I will not walk away nor build anew, idolizing money or job titles, but stand firmly in the foundation of faith that has already been established. Finally, I am beyond thankful for all that God has done in not only my life, but the lives of others. I used to read about His miracles in the Bible and was blinded by the world today thinking the days of miracles have passed. They have not. God is active today in our world as He was in the Bible. There are miracles all around us, all we have to do is open our eyes to see. I stand alive today because of one of those miracles.

So, no, I am not saying don’t have the lofty goals of losing weight, exercising daily, eating better, cutting sugars, limiting screen time-I’ve done them all. I just pray that, like I did today, you remember that all of those things, all of life, start with your faith. I pray that you start on that foundation first, and all else will fall in place. May God Bless your 2026 and for many of my friends that have had rocky starts, I believe in those miracles. Miraculous healing is around the corner!
