Jacob’s Ladder
I love it when I see Jacob’s ladder or rays from God peeking through the clouds in the sky. It is an immediate reminder of our connection to God and heaven above. Jacob “Had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it” and then God said “I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying…all peoples on this earth will be blessed through you and your offspring…I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go” (Genesis 28:12-15, NIV). These rays of sun that touch the earth are our reminder that we are Blessed, God is with us, and He is always watching over us- what a beautiful reminder.
I shared that last week was a hectic week, I think this will be my recurring theme until at least April! We often joke that where we live we can be in short and t-shirts in the morning and have to bundle up in a full winter coat by the afternoon. It is completely unpredictable and you have to dress in layers and be ready to adapt to the ever changing weather! This is the same place I am with work and family right now. I have to flex and adapt to the present moment, whether it is learning about a new role and meeting new teammates, to facilitating meetings with fellow soldiers, to enjoying critical snuggles with my girls after traveling for days on end. In all of these, and the weather, I am well prepared to adjust as required. I don’t wear a winter coat on a hot summer day, and I don’t focus on work when it’s time to snuggle. I choose to be present in the moment and be all in as a leader, as a mom, as a wife.
I don’t worry about my family when traveling-I used to, but now I know when I am not there, even when I am, God is always with them. I don’t fret about the things I don’t get done on any given day, because I know tomorrow is another day, and another chance to try again. I don’t fret in the storm and chaos, because I know the clouds will eventually fade and the rays of the sun will peak through reminding me that God was always there…maybe a little hidden, but never gone.
I take great comfort in Jacob’s ladder. We are never alone, and even when things are hectic or chaotic… He is still there, just maybe behind a cloud for a moment ,but never gone.
Today, I pray that you find the subtle reminders all around you of God’s presence. I pray that you flex and adapt as needed, but never lose sight of who’s you are and that it guide you in all you do.
