God’s people together in unity!
I’ve shared multiple times how I see Godwinks in the world around us. This weekend was not different. I had a dear friend that conducted a funeral for a lost friend and co-worker. The verse he used was Psalm 133:1 “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” We then had an amazing experience making Molasses with his family. We used the cane that he grew in his field from seeds handed down from generation to generation. He and his family cut it by hand to bring on the trailers for us to mill and prepare to make the molasses. The day passed in fellowship and sharing of stories of the times shared in the past with loved ones since gone and those that remain.
When I taught Sunday school today, I shared the same verse highlighting how special it is to be a part of God’s Community. I knew we would be bidding farewell to our BBQ that provided our church the unique opportunity to serve and share across all the generations of our church.
We then bid farewell to our beloved Mallard Creek BBQ. This would have been BBQ Sunday leading to our BBQ preparation for a tradition that we have enjoyed since joining Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church. The girls have grown up in this tradition from being pushed in strollers to finally being big enough to work the drive thru line. My joy has always been working in the coveted Stew Crew with the traditional recipe handed down from generations. Today, as my granddaughter sat in church with us for the first time, and as we sat and listened to Hope sing an amazing duet, many of us couldn’t help the tears that ran down our cheeks as we bid farewell to a treasured time. A time that we were Blessed to be a part of and what that we will always hold dear.
And then, it happened, our Pastor shared the same exact verse…Godwink. Every now and then, actually more often than not, God makes his presence known in all of our lives. So, today was a sad day, but also a day of celebration. A time to be joyful at being a part of God’s Community. After all, isn’t that what made the BBQ so special, just like making molasses? It’s not the amazing BBQ and Brunswick stew (although they are without comparison), it is about the fellowship and the community we share-and that has not gone away.
Today I pray that you rejoice in your community of God. I pray that although traditions may fade, and the environment may change, you stand with your community and make new traditions and find new ways to continue to spread God’s word and the joy He brings to all our lives.
