Thankful
I had a friend of mine share a wonderful song, “Thankful”, by Beth Hart (https://youtu.be/I9ggIalNId8?si=PTTKtoSzeahqRNtk). I encourage you to listen if you get a chance. As I received another text from him today, one of good news, I saw his previous text and it seemed fitting for today. Today, I am just thankful.
I didn’t sleep well last night due to one of our pups having a less than perfect night. That rough night led to a rough morning that was a bit hectic and that would normally result in a stressful day, but not today. My oldest daughter offered to help this morning and even though I didn’t take her up on it, the comfort it gave me to know she was available if needed gave me the calm I needed to get through the morning. Thankful.
Middle of the day, my husband sent me a picture of the dinner he already made. He didn’t want me to have a long day and then worry about it when I got home. Thankful.
I then received a text message from the same dear friend that shared the song “Thankful” sharing that one of his stories was selected for Guidepost. I was so happy that he started writing again and immediately received the affirmation he needed to stay on the path of sharing his testimonies. Thankful.
Finally, my mom stepped in and took care of one of our girls this evening so I could get much needed shopping and chores done since the weekend ahead is going to be hectic. Thankful.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes, I forget to look around and see all the things that call for thanks. I often dwell on the negative things and let that darken the rest of my day or days. Today could have been one of those days. Lack of sleep and a disruption to patterns are those things that would usually set me on edge, but today, all these little things not only helped me to be thankful, it encouraged me to pay it forward.
So, I did this thing. One of my friends was not feeling well, so when I went shopping, I grabbed a few extra things for her. Before we sat down to eat, we packed food for her family from the meal Rob made. The little notes sent from all of them made that all worth the little effort it took to pay it forward. That same meal gave my mom the thanks she deserved for always leaning in. Thankful.
Today, I pray that you look on your day and not dwell on the overwhelming or negative things, but instead, find the things where you can give thanks…try it, I bet you can find at least one! “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16, NIV).

Gratitude is key to living joyfully. As are empathy and mindfulness. Sounds like you have all three here. God bless you.
