Do you remember when?

In this evening’s neighborhood bible study, a dear friend said something that resonated with me. As we are working through Lacey Rozell’s “What if We Pray” we discussed our prayer life and how we should strive to live a righteous life everyday. My friend shared that she remembered during COVID all the things we used to do because we cared for each other. We used to put little notes and scavenger hunts of stuffed animals in our windows so when kids would walk in the neighborhood they would have something fun to look for in all our homes. She shared how we would all go on walks and speak to neighbors and would lift each other up. In those moments of desperation and fear, we all found each other. She then highlighted where we are now…how far we have come from those moments. Have we forgotten to love each other. Have we forgotten that in our shared suffering we did not dwell in the darkness, but found a way to comfort each other.

Lacey’s study reminds us to focus on our three habits of prayer, scripture study, and practicing righteousness. What if we focus on practicing righteousness. What if we focused on living as God intended with integrity, being humble, and virtuous? What if we focused on that in everything we do? What if, as a friend shared, you don’t take the shortcut on the highway on the way to work because you are so focused on yourself and your time with no regard to anyone else or how that makes you feel when done to you? What if you offer to help someone with their bags they’re carrying, or open a door for someone? What if when someone upsets you, you treat them with kindness first instead of anger? The word righteous or righteousness is found over 500 times in the Bible…we are called, expected to be righteous. “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires” (James 1:19-20, NIV).

Today, I pray that you face every moment of your day and pause, reflect and ask yourself if you are living as God intended? Are you being righteous or letting anger, selfishness, or other priorities pull you from living as you should? I pray that you live and set the example for your children and those around you. I pray that you feel the internal fulfillment and blessings of living a righteous life.

This one really resonated with me. The random kindness of strangers goes a long way. Kindness is the light that needs to shine bright. ❤️❤️
