We all have a voice
Today I heard from a dear friend that I have not talked to in several years. I am always amazed and thankful for those friendships that last a lifetime regardless how much time passes between encounters. This is one of those relationships.
He reached out to reconnect. He had been reading my blog and saw how Christ has been moving in my life and wanted to share that Christ has been moving in his life as well. One of my favorite things he shared was when he said whoever coined the phrase “Born Again” got it right. It is a new life.
He, like many others that have reached out, gave feedback on my blog or a verse and said God has been working in their lives or that they had a favorite verse. My next comment is, tell me about it. Tell me about your favorite verse, or what did the blog remind you of, what story do you have to share. You see, we all have a voice.
When I started down this journey, I just wanted to reach one person. If I could bring God to one person, then I knew it would all be for His good. My background, my story, is no greater or different than many of yours. God has just put people and events in my life to guide me to speak. Maybe, you reading this blog today, will encourage you to speak, to share.
There was a time when I hesitated to share or express my faith. I would cringe when my toddlers wanted to bring their Vacation Bible School recordings to daycare. Many who worked with me in the past would never guess my faith because although I didn’t hide it, I was far from open about it…these are not things you talk about at work. That was then-now, I don’t hesitate to share my faith. I encourage my girls to pray openly and often. We bring crosses from backpack blessings at church to their friends regardless of their faith to show we are praying for them. I bring prayer quilts from our church to people struggling through illness never asking their faith but showing that every stitch was prayed over and as they use it, they are covered in prayer. No one has ever responded in anger or made me feel regretful that I spoke about praying for them. These are all ways for our voices, our faith to be shared.
Jesus said to the Apostles to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19, NIV). We are these disciples and we are to continue to spread His word both in deed and words.
Today I pray you use your voice, you share your story, your testimony. I pray that you remove all limits and be open about who you are, God’s children-go be bold.
