Which story do you prefer?
Tonight I had a wonderful end to a very hectic day. It was a date night with friends where we enjoyed dinner and a show. The show we enjoyed was the Life of Pi.
A little background on the Life of Pi, I know there is a movie, but Rob and I never watched it. Our history with the Life of Pi is when we listened to it as an audiobook in one of our many long road trips. The audiobook kept us engaged for the entire span of over 12 hours. I was curious how they would make it into a play. Curious how they would be able to bring the animals to life and keep an audience engaged in what ends up being a monologue from a party of one. It was spectacular…highly recommended and by far one of the best shows I have had the opportunity to watch. My family is known as the intermission family-that’s when we usually leave. Not this time, even though we knew the ending, the show brought us back after intermission.
If you haven’t seen it, read the book, watch the movie, or enjoy the show…but you must see it. I will not ruin the storyline or the ending for those that have not had the opportunity to enjoy it, but I do want to share the conversation in the car on the way home.
Which story do you want to believe in your life? The one that is dark and shows all the ugliness of the world and human nature, or the one that has God and gives us peace in what you have to encounter in life to survive and exist? Do you focus on the ugliness of humans or do you recognize that the sin is a part of all of us, but so is the good and the innocence?
I know how my life is with God in it. I know that with God, I find peace when all else feels lost. Without him, it is just loss. I know with God I can see what I learn or grow or what good comes from those trials, without God, it is just pain.
Today, I pray that, like Pi, you pick the story with God…go read the book or watch the show-would love to hear your comments!
