Where do you turn when you are lost?

I enjoyed the three day weekend with the family. We didn’t make big plans and spent time doing things around the house and enjoyed a long family hike. It was a great weekend where I felt we captured every moment possible. I also managed to spend some time planning my writing and social media interactions to help with time management when I have deliverables to meet (I am working on this procrastination thing!). As part of this planning, I brainstormed and wrote down multiple blog ideas so I could pull from them when I needed if I was stuck or didn’t feel inspired on any given day. That was my plan today, I was going to pull from one of those topics for this evening, but then today happened. I love how God directs my writing. I love how He affirms time and again that I need to be prayerful and listen first, He will direct my hand.

Not once, but multiple times today I heard a simple question…What do you do when you are afraid or close to losing hope? What do you do when you are lost? I shared where I too had felt lost or without hope and that I had to turn it over to God. I didn’t do it out of reverence or belief, I did it out of desperation and having no other hope. In that moment and the moments that would follow in my life, I saw God active in my life. The answer or direction may not have been what I expected, but it was and always has been God’s perfect plan. I just needed to be open to that direction. I have recognized in my life that my understanding, my view of the world is limited. God’s is not. I have to trust and when I feel lost or hopeless, I take comfort in knowing that God is never lost or hopeless.

Today, I kept going back to when the people of Israel had walked, what seemed endlessly, for forty years and were finally on the verge of entering the promised land. In that moment, Moses shared that he would not be the one to lead them. They knew that their enemies occupied the land that they were promised. They were fearful, doubtful, and lost with little hope. They are then given this promise, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you or forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV). God told them to be strong and courageous and to trust. We are called to do the same.

Today, I pray if you are feeling lost or hopeless, that you turn in prayer to God and turn those fears and doubts to Him. I pray that when you received the answer to that prayer, that you listen and walk the path God directs for you. I pray that you know, just like the people of Israel, that God goes with you wherever that path may lead.
