I know my enemy
I stood with debris up to my knees as I looked at what remained of the World Trade towers. The park where I stood had pieces of hand drawn pictures from children that would hang in office cubicles along with magazines from street vendors. All of it piled high as I cut through the debris walking towards the towers to continue our search and rescue efforts.
Like many of you, I know exactly where I was when I first heard of a plane hitting the towers. Many of our friends ended up at our house that evening seeking comfort and assurance since my husband and I both served in the military. As the night went on, I could see that my husband felt the urge to do something more than sit at home. He announced to our friends that he would be going to New York to help with the rescue efforts.
