Your ways are not my ways

I listen to a wonderful podcast “Therapy and Theology”. If you have not heard it, I recommend you go have a listen (https://proverbs31.org/listen/podcast/full-podcast/2025/10/16/s10-e6-tools-to-fight-anxiety-and-better-your-mental-health). In one of the earlier podcast, the discussion was on how would you describe love and the description of loving someone unconditionally was a common response. I have said this many times to both my adult and younger children and it is the love that I strive to achieve. I strive to achieve it, but in full disclosure, I fail often. In their discussion, it stood out to me that they describe that only God is capable of unconditional love.

I then read from Isaiah in my bible study, and it further reinforced a similar thought. ““For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts”” (Isaiah 55:8-9, NIV). Wow- ever feel like a message is being driven home in so many ways?

I don’t know about you, but as much as I want to love unconditionally and as much as I want to keep my thoughts pure and without judgement or negativity towards others, I fail time and time again. God tells us that achieving this perfection is impossible- His ways are higher than our ways. God doesn’t want us to feel defeated in this effort, but to always strive to live as close to this as possible while understanding and being ok with the realization it is not something we will ever be able to achieve on this earth. When we recognize where we lack, we just need to seek to do better and be better every time. One of my teammates shared this phrase today- yet another one of those Godwinks- “Stronger than Yesterday”. Focus on progress.

Today I pray that you find ways to be more like Christ and not get frustrated when your thoughts and actions are not always as you desire. I pray that you strive to be better and do better everyday.
