We win!
Yesterday was a hard day. It was a difficult day for me for personal reasons and it was a difficult day for this Nation-one of many that we have suffered. I am thankful that I had a dear friend reach out to me immediately and warn me that the girls should not watch the video of Charlie being shot circulating on social media. I am even more grateful after the conversation I had at work this morning.
Yesterday I launched our latest bible study in the neighborhood and it is Lacey Rozell’s study, What if We Pray? It felt like I never left as we came together, a group of women of differing faiths, ages, and backgrounds, and chatted on how we can have a better prayerful life. We set some individual goals on having intentional time in prayer. My personal goal was to start the day on my knees and to speak my prayers out loud in the silence of the morning. Normally I find myself praying in my head as I am walking around or multi tasking.
Today was the first day of my intentional, focused, on my knees, spoken prayer. It changed my entire day. This day is always a day of reflection for me as it is for many of us that lived through that fateful day and saw terror strike our land. It is a time of sadness, but also a time of thankfulness. I saw how our Nation came together after those tragic events. I know, and have witnessed, how what is meant for evil can result in good. So, today’s prayer was focused on the words a dear friend left me with at lunch yesterday…very simply, we win. We know how the story is written, we know the ending. Although there will be trials and tribulations and we will be called to walk through the darkest valleys, God never leaves us. In the end, we win!
As I came into work today, I ran into an employee on the elevator that was clearly not in a good place. We chatted and he told me about how much the murder of Charlie affected him. He shared that he saw the video and he could not unsee it. He came to see me later to apologize for his behavior this morning- nothing to apologize for I told him. He then shared that he feels like he can't speak- that there is no voice for those that believe. I challenged him and told him this is the time to be bold in our faith; to speak truth into the world and to do so without fear because in the end, we win (sound familiar?). I then asked him if it was ok, and we prayed together and I shared this verse from today’s guidepost daily devotional. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33, NIV)
He shared that he used to get that devotional, just didn’t get it this year. I gave him mine as he walked out of my office. Later today I received a beautiful prayer bowl as a belated birthday gift from a dear friend and co-worker. Affirmation after affirmation today.
You never know what we may encounter but we must stand ready and remain steadfast in our faith. We should not be silenced in the difficult battles because we know how this war ends. When one of us falls to our knees, the others lift them up in prayer. God has us and always will. Remain bold and ever faithful.
Today I pray that when evil strikes, we use it for good. When we are pushed to silence, that you stand firm and shout your faith from the mountains. When all seems lost, be a beacon in how you live your lives, in your stedfast faith and bring them towards our Father.

Amazing, Cristina. Your words gain power by the day. Thank you for what you do and speaking with clarity God’s truths that cannot be quenched by the dark clouds in our midst that attempt to rain down terror and fear into our lives.

Thank you Ken. Who knew that our little lunch would be the words that we would refer back to later in the day. God is truly amazing and active in our lives.
