Honor the Sabbath
I don’t know about you, but honoring the Sabbath is something I often struggle to do. This week has been a hectic week beginning with celebration of life as we buried one of my soldiers and ending with the celebration of new life as we hosted our daughter’s baby shower at our home. Not often do we see the entire cycle of life in one week.
God calls us to honor the Sabbath- “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work…For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy” (Exodus 20:8-11) Who are we to be too busy to not honor the Sabbath and rest- are we busier than God when He created the heavens and the earth?
Today, I saw my oldest daughter surrounded in love. As our first granddaughter eagerly awaits to make her entrance, I saw our first daughter within a circle of family and friends that will not only be there for her in her life, but in our granddaughter’s life. The afternoon began as we gathered around and held hands as my husband led us in prayer over the food and the blessings in our lives. As the gifts were opened and the stories shared, I could not help but look around the room and breathe a sigh of thanks. I knew in that moment, our daughter and granddaughter will never be alone. They will have ups and downs but none of them will ever be faced without the support of one or many in the room.
Today- we honored the Sabbath in absolute joy as we watched the cycle of life and all that God has created.
I pray that you find a way to always honor the Sabbath-life is never too hectic, there is never anything too critical or too urgent to not pause, to not reflect, and to not be prayerful and thankful for the greatness of God and all that He has created.
