Connections
Today was a day of connections. I am sure each of you have at least one person in your life that regardless of how much time has passed since your last meeting, it feels like time did not exist when you see each other again.
I had a dear friend reach out last week to meet- we grew up together and through the years have come in and out of each other’s lives. We now live closer together than we have throughout our entire adult lives. We decided to meet for lunch and to just catch up. As soon as I saw him, it was the same as always-like time stood still. Maybe each of us have a few more wrinkles but our connection has never faded. We had a wonderful lunch talking about all that has passed and current events in both our lives and that of our families. He might not realize it, but he was truly that first dear friend that showed me what it really means to be a loving Christian- to follow what God ask of us to love one another as He loves us. I never felt judged by him, only accepted and loved for who I was. I am thankful for that foundation and even more thankful that we have stayed connected throughout these years to see the path God has laid before us.
This evening, I had the chance to reconnect with an amazing group of ladies. Individually we have been talking about coming back together but life seems to always happen and schedules and dates never seemed to coincide. This week, I sent a quick text, and Godwink…the date worked for all but one. Similar to my encounter earlier in the day, there was an immediate comfort when we all came together. Our banter was like we were never apart. The evening passed with many stories, laughter, and sharing of all that life has thrown our way since last we met. I have a special connection with each of these friends, but today, I want to focus on one. Similar to my connection earlier in the day, she may not realize the impact she had on me and where I am today on my faith journey. I distinctly recall being frustrated in our neighborhood and struggling to find my space-and she posted about starting a women’s bible study. Who knew that this would eventually lead to me teaching in our neighborhood bible study, expanding to teach in my church, and now, retuning to school to study theology and dig deeper into the Word. I am thankful that I saw her message in the exact time that I needed it, I am thankful that it opened the door to the other connections with these amazing women. Godwink.
The Bible reminds us to “walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fool suffers harm” (Proverbs 13:20). I am thankful that I am surrounded by wise friends…I don’t believe in coincidences, I know God brought us together in His time as He conducts this amazing thing we call life.
I pray this encourages you to reach out to those connections that although much time may have passed, will feel like yesterday when you meet again. I pray you walk with the wise, that you strengthen connections that bring you closer to God and draw others closer to Him as they see how you live your life and treat others. Today, I am thankful in prayer for the connections God has placed in my life.
